Installing a Wireless Intercom System Has Its Advantages

An Intercom system may be a highly useful tool for facilitating communication while also providing security for you and your family. Gone are the days when you had to run wires through walls and ceilings to each and every station; nowadays, wireless technology has rendered hard wired systems nearly obsolete.

A wireless intercom is a terrific option if you have an external garage or work shed for letting people know you’re home so they can let you in or talking with folks inside while you’re out working hard in the shed. All you need is a power outlet for the power source or batteries if you want to move the unit around. There will be no more trenches dug or conduit laid to move one station away from the house.

Having many units inside the house can also be advantageous because you can keep an eye on, or at the very least an ear out for, what everyone is up to. With the kids in one room and you at the other, you can still hear what they’re up to and avoid any potentially harmful circumstances, such as the kids going outdoors without your knowledge or doing something that puts them in danger.

Taking this concept a step further, if you have a young child and need to get things done while they are sleeping, you can set up a station in each of your house’s different rooms and listen for them no matter where you are. Consider it an upgraded baby monitor! Many current systems allow you to continue doing what you’re doing while conversing with the other people in your house using hands-free operation.

Wireless technologies, on the other hand, have some limits. Some portions of your home may fall into what are known as black spots, or areas where the wireless signal is unable to travel, depending on the design of your home. The only constraints with a wireless system are that the units must be powered by either mains power or battery power in order to work. Generally, a good reception area may be discovered by moving the units around within the space.

If you’re having a house built, a hardwired system may be preferable than a wireless system because it can be installed while the sheeting is being installed and is deemed more reliable. However, with today’s technology, there’s no reason why a wireless intercom can’t be properly installed in an existing home, and the added versatility may make it even more appealing.
